Mr. James Everett Grooms, age 71, entered eternal rest on Saturday, April 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving family at Scotland Memorial Hospital.

Born in Marlboro County, SC, on July 3, 1945, he was the son of the late Henry Everett Grooms and Eva Roberts Grooms. He was a graduate of Bennettsville High School, spent seven years serving his country in the South Carolina National Guard and was the co-owner of Grooms Brothers Tires in McColl. He was a faithful member of Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church where he played guitar, served as a Deacon, and Assistant Sunday School teacher. James enjoyed gardening and farming and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved his family and his canine companion “Old Boy.”

He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Geraldine B. Grooms of the home in McColl; by sons, Jody (Sharon) Grooms of Rock Hill, SC, Jason (Jenny) Grooms of McColl and Hawk (Raven) Grooms of Bennettsville; by brothers, Arthur (Millie) Grooms of McColl, Donald (Bobbie Jean) Grooms of McColl, William (Kathy) Grooms of the Newtonville Community of Marlboro County, and Rev. Sampson “Bo” ((Pam) Grooms of McColl; by sisters, Margaret (David) Smith of Wallace, Nellie (Eugene) Branton of McColl, Sara (Patrick) Coxe of Bennettsville and Deliah (Mike) Garner of McColl; and by 8 grandchildren, Payton Grooms, Ivy Grooms, Nolan Grooms, Ally Grooms, Lia Grooms, Piper Grooms, Charlotte Grace Grooms and Scarlett Grooms.

Funeral services will be held 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church with burial following at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gibson, NC. The family will receive friends from 6-8P.M. on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Piney Plain Free Will Baptist Church. (The church is located at 2220 Adamsville Rd N, McColl, SC 29570)

James was preceded in death by his parents listed above; and by a precious daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Grooms.
