Mr. Cecil Eugene “Gene” Cheek, passed away, Friday, November 10, 2017, at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. He was 73.

Born in Bennettsville on June 6, 1944. He was a son of the late Cecil Hamer and Letha Fairfax Cheek.  He previously attended McColl Pentecostal Holiness Church. He received his associates degree from Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College. He was a construction worker. Most of all he was a proud Vietnam Veteran. He loved his country and his family. He liked to travel and see the sights of nature. He enjoyed hunting and his animals.

He is survived by his brothers, Nathan Randolph Cheek, Sr. of McColl and Johnny Harold Cheek of Wilmington, NC; his sisters, Catherine Darlene Cheek of McColl, Tina Cheek Williams and husband Purnell of McColl, and Samantha Cheek Usher and husband Ricky of Laurinburg, NC; nieces, Laura Daniels, Abby Shell (Dan), Whitney Williams; nephews, Randolph Cheek, Jr. (Maranda), Alex Usher, Ricky Usher(Missy), and Purnell Williams; and two special cousins, Colon Cheek and David Cheek.

He was preceded in death by his parents listed above and his sister Laura Hamer Cheek.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 6:00 PM at Rogers Funeral Home with visitation following after the service. A burial will be held 1:00 pm, Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Florence National Cemetery in Florence, SC.
