Mrs Dorothy Gibson Love, 88, of 3302 Toothacres Road, McColl, SC died on Friday, May 15, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Main Street United Methodist Church in McColl, SC.  The family will receive friends following the service.  There will be a private burial held for the immediate family prior to the service.  Those who wish to pay their respects to Mrs. Love may do so at Rogers Funeral Home on Sunday, May 17, 2015 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m.

Miss Dot, as her friends knew her, was born in Gibson, North Carolina on April 25, 1927 to the late Maie McMillian Gibson and James Lytch Gibson.  She graduated from Peace College in 1946 and was married for 66 years to Dr. Charles William Love, who predeceased her on May 21, 2014.

Many will remember Miss Dot as a woman who could do most anything. You might see her on a tractor working in the yard, arranging flowers for church or hosting bridge club.  Mama was proud to be named Woman of the Year for the town of McColl in 2010.  She loved to sew and bake.  Her family will always be grateful for the massive spreads she prepared for the holidays, especially the delicious varieties of cookies she baked that were recipes passed down from her mother.  She was always sure to have everyone’s favorite.  Miss Dot had an unforgettable smile and enjoyed being around people.  No one liked to see people have a good time more than Miss Dot.  She was quick with a joke and lived for the next party.  Although she was in pain for many years, she never complained.  Her strength and determination have been remarkable.

Most of all, “Big Mama” loved her family.  She often referred to them as “her pride and joy”.  Surviving are her children, Charles William Love, Jr. and Cathy of McColl, Linda Levkoff and  George of Chapin, Catherine Vitale and Anthony of Chapin, and Alan Love and Mitzi of Little River.  “Big Mama’s” grandchildren are Dottie Farfone and Scott of James Island, Gordon Love and Renee and Carrie McDuffie and Robbie of Benenttsville, Tatum Darby of Columbia, Julian Levkoff and Bonnie of Chapin, Phillip Levkoff and Sasha of Irmo, Alley Zimmer and Chris of Columbia, and Maie Brunson of Columbia.  Miss Dot has eight great-grandchildren, John and Gibson Darby, Brooke, Rivers, and Jackson Farfone, Anna Zimmer, and Grayson and Hudson Levkoff.

We, the Love family, would like to convey our love any appreciation to Lois Moore, who has cared for our mother and father for more than 40 years.  She was been mama’s best friend and we are deeply grateful.  We also would like to thank Travis Gray and Comfort Keepers, Glendale Breeden, TruLove Gilcrest, Tarsha Bass, Gloria Harlee, Tiffany Taylor, and Brittany Brown.  We are also grateful to Dr. Kelvin Raybon and the staff of Scotland Cancer Treatment Center for their loving care which extended mama’s precious life.  It was a blessing to have Cheryl Kelley of the Scotland County Hospice to care for mama during her final days. A special thank you to our Minister Reverend Ann Everett and mama’s many friends who have loved her throughout the years.

Memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 210 North Main Street, McColl, SC 29570.

Rogers Funeral Home is assisting the Love family.
