Mr. Fred Martin of McColl passed away peacefully at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC on Friday, October 30, 2015. He was 86 years old.
Funeral services for Mr. Martin will be Monday, November 2, 2015 at the First Baptist Church on Main St. in McColl at 2:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Rev. Joe Everington. Burial will follow in Rogers Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., just prior to the services.
Mr. Martin was born the day after Christmas in 1928 to the late Fred Martin and the late Eulon Baker Martin. He spent his career as a loom operator in the cotton mills around Laurinburg and he enjoyed growing vegetables in the garden behind his house. He had a terrific green thumb and was a farmer without a farm. He was a quiet man and had a kind heart.
Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Martin; two sisters, Esther Martin and Virginia Martin Hall and a niece, Tammy Hall Hagerman.
To cherish his memory Mr. Martin leaves behind a nephew, Lester “Bill” Hall, Jr. and wife Mary Kathryn of Columbia, SC as well as a host of friends, neighbors, and loved ones.
The family would like to offer its sincerest gratitude to the staff and nurses at Hospice of Scotland County for the love and care they gave Mr. Martin. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Scotland County, 610 Lauchwood Dr. in Laurinburg, NC 28352.
