Mr. John Thomas “Tommy” Grooms, age 44, passed away recently in Marlboro County, SC.
Born in the family home in McColl, SC, on March 16, 1971, he was a son of John Everett Grooms and Gracie Marie Quick Grooms. He loved his job as a carpenter and was employed by Roberts Construction Company in Bennettsville and attended United Christian Faith Holiness Church in McColl. Tommy enjoyed riding his bicycle, and spending time with his granddaughter, nieces and nephews. He was a kind and generous man who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
Funeral services will be at Victory Outreach Center in Bennettsville, SC at 2:00 PM on Friday, January 22, 2016 and will be officiated by the Rev. Betty Mears with Pastor J.R. Chavis assisting. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery in McColl, SC. There will be a time of visitation Thursday evening from 6:00 - 8:00, at Rogers Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Lena Marie Hood Grooms of Whiteville, NC; 3 sons, Joshua Thomas Grooms, Jonathan Ryan Grooms and Jason Matthew Grooms all of Whiteville, NC; parents, John E. Grooms and Gracie Marie Grooms of Bennettsville; 3 brothers, Chad Everette Grooms (Valencia) of Bennettsville, Christopher John Grooms (Joanna Nicole) of Bennettsville and James Patrick Grooms (Mary Kessler) of Dillon, County; 1 granddaughter, Kaylee She Moore of Charleton, SC; by 2 nieces; 9 nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
