Joseph Russell Tyler passed away Tuesday evening, April 5, 2016 in the care of Kitty Askins Hospice Center of Goldsboro, NC. He was 68 years old.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 2:00 PM and will be officiated by the Rev. Donald Deal at Eastside Baptist Church in McColl, SC. Burial will follow at Rogers Cemetery, also in McColl. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 PM, just prior to the service.
Russell was born November 13, 1947 to the late Bowden Tyler and the late Mary Katherine Bearden in Marlboro County, SC. He spent his career behind the wheel of an 18-wheeler traveling across the country and loved every mile. Russell was a college football fanatic and was a huge fan of the USC Gamecocks. He loved life to the fullest. Having said all of this, his truest joy in life was his family and especially his grandchildren. From 28 years old to the two year old, he was devoted to his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents Russell was preceded in death by his two sisters, Vickey Tyler Randolph (2015) and Sheila Ann Strickland, and a son-in-law, Marshall Grooms (2013).
To cherish his memory he leaves with us two sons, Joseph Russell Tyler, Jr. and wife Krystal of Sims, NC and Charles Phillip Tyler and wife Jamie of Kenly, NC; a daughter, Carol Tyler Grooms of Wendell, NC; seven grandchildren, Josh Reason and wife Leslie, Chris Reason and wife Alexis, Jessica Lindstrom and husband Alex, Kristen Tyler, Michael Tyler, Camden Tyler, and Mason Tyler; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Lexy, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends. He will also be missed by his special friend Ruby Mincey of Zebulon, NC.
The family would like to extend its sincerest appreciation to the nurses and staff of the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro for the love and care of Russell and his family.
