SFC USARMY ret -  Mr. Andrew Charles “Charlie” Weston, age 78, formerly of McColl, SC, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 16, 2015, at the St. George Healthcare Center in St. George, SC,  after an illness.

  Born in Plymouth, MA, on July 21, 1937, he was the son of the late Arthur W. Weston and Elsie M. Thornhill Weston Chandler. He was a member and former Deacon of First Baptist Church in McColl and a member of the SCLEA.  His extensive law enforcement career included, working for the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Department as a deputy, Sergeant over the Gunnery Armory at Evans Correctional Institution and served as Chief of Police of McColl for 4 years. He retired from the United States Army after 20 years of service, achieving the rank of Sergeant First Class. During his military service, he served tours in both Korea and in Vietnam and received several awards; (2) Good Conduct Medals; National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Rifle M-16 Sps Qualification Badge; Carbine M-1 Sps Qualification Badge; (2)  OS Service Bars; Army Occupational Medal (OAM); a Parachute Badge; and the Army Commendation Medal (ARCOM).

  His hobbies included fishing, working crossword puzzles, playing cards, watching “John Wayne” westerns, and driving around McColl. His favorite thing to do was to cook meals. He will be remembered as a people person and family man that loved and adored his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandson.

  He is survived by his loving wife, Ila Mae Orvin Weston of St. George, SC; daughters, Christine A. Lewis and husband Terry of Holly Hill, SC and Donna W. Spivey and husband Brenden of N. Charleston, SC; brothers, Jerry Weston of Sacramento, CA and Walter Weston of Frankfort, NY; grandchildren, Terry A. Lewis of Holly Hill, SC, Candace L. Spivey and William P. Spivey both of N. Charleston, SC; a great-grandson, Skylar “Sky” V. Lewis.

   Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Rogers Funeral Home. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Rogers Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8P.M. on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Rogers Funeral Home.

 Mr. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents listed above; by brothers, Herbert Weston and Ira Weston; and by a sister, Polly Lepper.
