  Sister Esther Mae Turner Skipper, age 81, faithful widow of the late Thelbert Skipper, Jr., passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 9, 2017, in Fayetteville, NC, at the home of her daughter, Brenda Cornett.

  Born in Scotland County, NC, on March 31, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Lonzie Turner and Sadie Butler Williams. She was a faithful member of the McColl Church of God, the Senior Adults Sunday School Class, and was always willing to serve her church wherever she was needed. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and serving her family. Sister Esther was one of the most loving and caring people and always treated everyone the same, and was always willing to cook a meal to help friends and others in need. Sister Esther counted time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as one of her greatest blessings and joys throughout her life. Her passion was serving God and helping others in her community. She retired after many dedicated years of service from J.P. Stevens in Wagram.

  Sister Esther is survived by her 3 sons, Alfred Skipper (Jane) of McColl, Richard Earl Skipper (Patricia M. Jackson) of Bennettsville and Robert Skipper (Mary McCallum Skipper) of McColl; by a daughter, Brenda Skipper Cornett of Fayetteville, NC; by 4 sisters, Virginia “Woman” Williams, Elizabeth “Tootsie” Johnson (Walker),  Mary “Pig” Locklear and Margalene “Nooder” Lee all of McColl; by a special  sister-in-law, Lela Mae "Midge" Milligan of Laurinburg;  by 2 brother-in-laws, Howard Skipper (Hazel) of Bennettsville and Toby Skipper of Laurinburg;  by 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren;  also by extended sons, Donald Ray Milligan (Michelle) of Alto, Georgia, Willie James Milligan (Denise) of McColl and Clarence Thomas Milligan (Karen) of Laurinburg; by extended daughters, Deborah Adkins (Jimmy) of Laurinburg, Betty Weekley (John) of Gravestone, Georgia,  Kathy Ledwell (Bob) of Laurinburg and Gail Chavis (Gary) of Laurinburg; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Skipper of McColl; also by a host of other relatives and friends.

  Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at the McColl Church of God with burial following in Rogers Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. Roy Puckett and Rev. Donald Deal will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Rogers Funeral Home, and anytime at  the home of her son, Robert Skipper, 209 Cedar Street in McColl.

  She was preceded in death by her parents listed above; by her husband of 65 years, Thelbert Skipper, Jr., who died on January 14, 2016; by a son, Billy Gene Skipper who died Nov. 21, 2015; by a sister, Shelby Jean Grooms; by 2 brothers, Bill “Skeet” Williams and Floyd Williams; and by a son-in-law, John Cornett who died in 2011.
