  Mrs. Mildred Jackson Sanders, age 89, went to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, while under the tender care of Scotland Regional Hospice in Laurinburg, NC. She was married for more than 50 years to the love of her life, the late Zeb Vance Sanders, Jr.

   Born in Marlboro County, SC, on February 28, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Mantie Lee Jackson and Ophelia Catherine Jolly Jackson. She was a Graduate of Fletcher Memorial High School in McColl and was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of McColl where she was very active in the W.M.U.  She was always delighted in preparing suppers and any other meals her church asked her to do. She retired as an Operator from Southern Bell Telephone Company after many years of dedicated service and then as a Sales Lady from Peebles Department Store in Laurinburg, NC. 

  She is survived by her precious daughters, Cathy Chavis and husband Anthony of Laurinburg, NC and Millie Grooms and husband Arthur of McColl; a devoted son, Monta Sanders of McColl; seven loving grandchildren, Christopher Chavis and wife Jillian, Vance Chavis, Patrick Grooms and wife Lindsay, Samuel Grooms, Penny Grooms, Leslie Sanders and Jennifer Yates and husband Brian; by ten great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mrs. David Jackson of Parkton, NC; and by many loving nieces and nephews.

  Mrs. Mildred will be greatly missed by the many people whose lives she touched and will be remembered for the many delicious meals she cooked, for baking scrumptious cakes, and creating deep family traditions. She was deeply family oriented and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.

  Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at First Baptist Church in McColl with burial following at Beaverdam Cemetery in McColl. Rev. Joe Elvington will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. on Friday at the First Baptist Church in McColl.

   Mrs. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; by brothers, M.L., Norman, David, Gene and infant brother Robert; and a sister, Beatrice Thomas.
