Mrs. Vera (Jones) Ransom

McColl, SC

  Mrs.  Vera J. Ransom, age 66, faithful widow of the late Larry V. “Rusty” Ransom, Sr., passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 in Laurinburg, NC at the home of her daughter Mary R. Jacobs, surrounded by her loving family.

 Born in Marlboro County, SC, on December 10, 1950, she was the daughter of the late Bob and Sadie Farinella Jones.  Mrs. Vera was a lifelong resident of McColl, SC.  She was a graduate of McColl High School Class of 1970 and the University of Phoenix 2013 where she received an Associate’s Degree in Psychology.  She attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Laurinburg, NC.

  She loved spending time with her family, cooking for them, and being together at family gatherings, going to the beach, reading and shopping. She will be remembered most as a loving, devoted  mother and Nana. She never met a stranger and her kitchen was always open to anyone who stopped by. No one ever left her home hungry.

  She is survived by a son, Larry V. Ransom, Jr. (Jo Ellen Ransom) of Rock Hill, SC;  daughters, Mary Ransom Jacobs (John M. Jacobs) of Laurinburg, NC and Holly E. Ransom (Jason Casazza) of  McColl; by sisters, Shirley Flowers and Frances (Thomas) Locklear both of McColl; a sister-in-law, Brenda Jones of McColl; and by grandchildren, Kortney Elizabeth Jacobs and Payton LeeAnn Ransom.

  Funeral services will be held 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at the McColl Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial following at Rogers Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 24, 2017 at Rogers Funeral Home.

  Mrs. Vera was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; a brother, Robert Chapman Jones, Jr.; sister, Vicky Gail Jones; and by a brother-in-law, Oscar Legrand Flowers.
