Sara Frances (Grooms) Coxe

Sara Frances Grooms Coxe, age 71 of Bennettsville, went to her Heavenly home on Saturday, April 6, 2024, after an extended illness.

Sara was born September 7, 1952, in Bennettsville, SC. She was a daughter of the late Henry and Eva Roberts Grooms. Sara worked as a nurse until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, especially baking. Sara was a woman of strong faith. She was a very active member of Piney Plain Freewill Baptist Church. Sara taught Sunday School and held other various jobs around the church. She loved good gospel singing. Sara had a deep love for her family. She enjoyed spending time with all of them, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Sara was preceded in death by a daughter, Angel Frances Coxe; a brother, James Grooms; a sister, Margaret Smith; brothers-in-law, Milton “Mike” Garner, Michael Coxe and his wife Linda; a sister- in- law, Anne Coxe.

Sara is survived by her husband, Patrick Coxe of the home; a daughter, Kimberly Coxe Elvington (Brice) of Florence; brothers, Arthur Grooms (Millie), Donald Grooms (Bobbie Jean), William Grooms (Kathy), Rev. Sampson “Bo” Grooms (Pam) all of McColl; sisters, Nell Branton (Gene) and Deliah Garner both of McColl; grandchildren, Hampton Elvington, Katie Brice Elvington, Bowen Elvington, and Huntley Elvington, all of Florence; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Grooms of McColl, and Sarah Coxe Frye of Irmo; brothers-in-law, David Smith of Wallace and Dr. Robert Coxe (Melissa) of Chapin; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.

Burial will follow the service at Sunset Memorial Park.

A time of visitation will be held on Monday, April 8, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.
