Sarah Jane (Thompson) Sewell

Sister Sarah Jane Thompson Sewell, age 87 of Hamlet, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at First Health Richmond.

Sister Sarah was born July 15, 1936, in Dillon, SC. She was a daughter of the late Jasper and Mary Locklear Thompson. Sister Sarah was a faithful, Christian woman. She was a member of Gibson Friendship Mission. She loved using her talents of singing and playing the guitar to worship the Lord. Sister Sarah also enjoyed working in her garden. She had a great love for her family, and enjoyed spending time with all of them, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Sister Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Sewell; a son, Billy Ray Sewell, Sr.; grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Sewell, Jesse Daniel Sewell, and Hannah Rose Sewell; a great grandchild, Ryland Owens; brothers, Willie Thompson, JP Thompson, Sam Thompson, Leroy Thompson, and Melvin Thompson; sisters, Ellen Gaye, Edna Perhealth, Mary Ann Milligan, Thelma Dimery, Esther Leviner, and Vera Malloy.

Sister Sarah is survived by sons, Charles Ray Sewell (Joyce), Rev. Tracy Thad Sewell (Grace), and James Richard Sewell, all of Hamlet, NC; daughters, Janet Deberry and Sara Frances Hicks, both of Hamlet, NC, Brenda Kay Joyner of Rockingham, NC, and Barbara Jean Edmunds (Kevin) of Marston; sisters, Joyce Thompson of Gibson, NC and Bonnie Leviner of Hamlet; fifteen grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren with one more on the way.

A homegoing celebration will be held on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Bible Freewill Church of Worship in Hamlet, NC. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.

A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.
