Mrs. Jeannette (Capel) Fletcher, a longtime resident of McColl, South Carolina, passed away at age 98 on October 11, 2018. Although she considered McColl as her home, she resided In Hickory, North Carolina with her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren for the past 7 years.
A graduate of Flora McDonald College in 1942, she was a dedicated teacher in the Marlboro County School System. For years she taught sixth grade at Fletcher Memorial and later at Adamsville School. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, promoting professional and personal growth of women educators and excellence in education.
Jeannette was the loving wife of the late Gordon L Fletcher Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Virginia Capel of Mt.Gilead, North Carolina, an older sister Agnes Magarian, and a younger sister, Maxine Robinson. She is survived by her son, Dr. Gordon Fletcher III, daughter in law, Sandy, and grandsons, Wesley and Hampton Fletcher.
She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church in McColl and coordinated Sunday School classes there for over 30 years. She was especially devoted to children’s ministry and helped develop an interdenominational summer Bible School at Main Street. Known affectionally as “Miss Net” she touched the lives of many generations of children.
A graveside service will be held at 3 PM on Sunday, October 14th. at Roselawn Cemetery in McColl. Due to damage from hurricane Florence at Main Street Methodist, her memorial service will take place at 3 PM on Saturday, October 20th at Pine Grove United Methodist Church, 1039 Pine Grove Church Road, McColl, SC 29570. The family will receive friends at Pine Grove immediately prior to the service beginning at 1:30 PM.
