Charles Wilburn Bowen, age 93 of Bennettsville, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at his residence after an extended illness.
Charles was born August 15, 1932, in Marlboro County. He was a son of the late Gus David and Ila Bell Bowen. Charles retired from the Marlboro County School District after serving many years in the maintenance department. He attended Clio Church of God while his health allowed. Charles was a hard-working man. He was a self-taught machinist who was always building or repairing something. He also liked being outside working in the yard and gardening.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Locklear Bowen; his siblings, James Vernon Bowen, Julian Bowen, David “Pete” Bowen, and Mildred Bowen Perkins.
Charles is survived by a son, Wilburn Phillip Bowen, Sr. and wife Kelly of Salters; grandchildren, Wilburn Phillip Bowen II and wife Candi of Lake City, Charles Anthony Bowen and wife Shannon of Florence, Jania Bowen Anderson of Lugoff, Jami Bowen Wannamaker and husband Ryan of Lugoff, and Nicholas Phillip Bowen of Salters; great grandchildren, Charles Landon Bowen, Tyler Addison Bowen, Charles Hayden Bowen, Hayley Nicole Bowen, Breanna Bowen Manos and husband Hank, Brooklyn Hope Anderson, Taylor Grace Sparling, Matthew Alan Sparling, Hadley Wannamaker, and Dolly Wannamaker; a great great grandchild, Bowen Manos; special friends, Ms. Mary Herndon, Mr. Bobby Flowers, and Mr. Cliffton Quick; an “extra special caregiver” great granddaughter, Candi Bowen; his special pet cat, Angel; several other extended family members also survive.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurinburg, NC.
A time of visitation will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. at Rogers Funeral Home.
