Charles Alfred Pate

Laurinburg, NC

Mr. Charles Alfred Pate, age 81,  passed away on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Scottish Pines Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Laurinburg, NC, after an illness.

Born in McColl, SC, on April 14, 1934, he was the son of eleven children born to the late John Murray Pate and Eva Britt Pate. He was educated in the McColl School System and attended the North Laurinburg Baptist Church.

As a young man, "Charlie" moved to Florida and worked in the shipyards. He later returned to Laurinburg and worked at Mr. Charlie Nichol's Service Station and Mr. Buck Stanton's Service Station. He then ventured into the landscaping business and became the former owner of Scotland Landscape Service for many years. Before "Charlie's" health declined, he was going to retire from St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, after 30 years of dedicated service.

"Charlie" made many friends along the way and always put others first. He would gladly lend a hand to travelers who were stranded along the roadside. 

He is survived by his two sisters, Betty Pate Keeney of Florence, SC and Shirley Pate Skipper of Laurinburg, NC; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends; and by his loving church family at the North Laurinburg Baptist Church.

A Graveside Funeral Service will be held 12:00P.M. on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at Rogers Cemetery in McColl officiated by Rev. Ed Pilarczyk. The family will receive friends immediately after the service at the cemetery.

"Charlie" was preceded in death by his parents listed above; and by 8 siblings, Myrtle Pate West, Russell Pate, Fannie Mae, Tommy, J.D. Pate, Earl Pate, Robert Bowman Pate and Gladys Pate Breit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Hospice of Scotland County, PO Box 1033, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or to North Laurinburg Baptist Church, 517 Lees Mill Rd, Laurinburg, NC 28352.
