Colon Lester Cheek, Jr., 81, passed away Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Scottish Pines in Laurinburg, NC, after an illness.
Born January 13, 1944, in Marlboro County, SC, Colon was the son of the late Colon L. Cheek, Sr. and Beatrice Hill Cheek. He attended Main Street Methodist Church and was well known in the community as the owner and operator of Colon’s Grocery. He also served as a firefighter for the Town of McColl. Colon enjoyed old cars, gardening and yard work, and traveling.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his sons, David Ray Cheek, Donald Cheek (Kim), and Colon L. Cheek III (Kim); stepson, Michael Stroud; stepdaughters, Allison Stroud and Susan Stroud; sister, Brenda McLucas; and two special granddaughters he lovingly raised as his own, Ashleigh Haithcock and Isabella Bittle. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Colon was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mildred Williamson Cheek; his second wife, Bobbie Jean Cheek; grandson, Jason Hopkins; stepson, Eddie Stroud; and five siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Rogers Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor John Quick, Jr. with burial following in Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00–2:00 p.m., at the funeral home just prior to the service and at the residence of Donald & Kim Cheek, 602 South Main Street, McColl, SC during other times.
