Donald Ray Radford, Sr, known by his family and friends as “Butch,” was born September 1st, 1952, in Scotland County, NC. Butch was born to Melvin “Archie” Radford and Daisy Cheek Floyd (Robert “R.C” Floyd). Butch departed this life into eternal rest on September 11th, 2022.

During his younger years, Butch was a hard worker. He was employed for 25 years with Covington Fabrics in McColl, SC. He enjoyed NASCAR with his oldest son “Ray.” He also enjoyed what he called “hustling.” He could take $1 and turn it into $1,000. He enjoyed coupon shopping and selling the items to make extra money to support his family.

As he entered his later years, he was a laid-back poppa who enjoyed thrifting and bargain shopping. More than anything, he enjoyed his wife’s home cooked meals. Prior to his death, he was a homebody, who enjoyed reading his Bible, listening to Christian radio, watching westerns and evangelists on YouTube, talking on the phone with his family and sitting on the front porch drinking coffee while having conversation with his neighbor and brother in law, Sid Polston (whose cooking he also enjoyed).

Butch met and married the love of his life, Sara Frances Radford, on June 13, 1975. During their union, they had a son, Donald Ray Jr. and a daughter, Karin Elizabeth. In their latter years, they also raised their adopted son, Cody Dale Ransom.

Butch leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, children, and grandchildren, whom he loved dearly & would do anything for. Wife of 47 years, Sara; sons, Ray (Sonia) and Cody (Savannah) and his daughter, Karin (Richie) Brown; his grandchildren Hannah, Rachel, Harmony, Robin, Breanna (Roger), Briant (Haley), Brooklynn, soon to be born granddaughter, Nahava Jade Ransom, and great grandson Aiden Michael Radford; sisters, Janet Radford, Gina (Robert) Huggins, Teri (El) Deal and Rochelle Radford.

He was preceded in death by both parents and stepfather, sister, Toni Ransom and brother, Christian Floyd.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Peace Holiness Church in Gibson, NC. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm until 2:00pm just prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that monetary donations be placed towards remaining cost of funeral arrangements for Butch.
