Elmer Smith, affectionately known as Mr. Elmer, departed this life on November 3, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Elmer was born on September 29, 1937, to the late James and Ella Smith. He was lovingly raised by the late Franklin and Blanche Bullard.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by siblings, Donald Medlock, Albert Smith, and Alene Roller.
Elmer was a warm, gentle man. He retired after twenty-five years of working at McColl Middle School as a custodian. Elmer enjoyed going to church. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and fishing. Most of all, Elmer enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Elmer loved everyone and everyone loved him.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of sixty seven years, Annie Ruth Smith of the home; his children, Sara Chavis (Donnie) and Wanda Jackson (Mike) both of McColl, Isham Smith (Rose) and Blanche Wyland, both of Laurinburg, NC, Charles Smith (Julie) of McColl and Patrick Smith (Tamara) of Maxton, NC; brothers, Pete Smith (Janice) and Percy Smith, both of McColl; sisters, Jessie Bryant of McColl and Mary Goins of Hamlet, NC; nineteen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
A service to celebrate Elmer’s life will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at McColl Church of God. A burial will follow the service at Priest Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home.
