McColl, SC Gary Allan Quick, Sr., “Big G”, age 75 of McColl, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Patriot Village in Sumter.
Gary was born October 21, 1950, in Laurinburg, NC. He was a son of the late Colon Jack and Lorraine Snipes Quick. Gary graduated from McColl High School in 1970. He loved sports and was standout athlete. Gary played football, basketball, and baseball. He also ran track and wrestled. After graduation, he briefly worked at St. Andrews College in maintenance. Gary then joined the United States Marine Corps. He proudly served his country until his honorable discharge. After his military service, Gary traveled around working shutdowns for nuclear plants. After furthering his education, Gary served as the water supervisor for the Town of McColl for seven years. He was then elected Mayor of McColl, where he served the town for ten years. On March 2, 2010, Senator Dick Elliott introduced S-1244 to the senate, and it was adopted by the senate, to recognize and commend the Honorable Gary Allen Quick, Sr. of Marlboro County for his dedicated service as mayor of McColl, SC, and his commitment to the citizens of McColl. Gary loved his hometown and loved helping people. He was a member of McColl Church of God, where he served in many positions. He filled in as Sunday School Superintendent. He chaperoned beach trips with the youth. And volunteered at Kids Camp and various other youth camps. Gary had a big heart. He will be remembered as someone who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Gary Allen "Lil G” Quick, Jr; brothers, Bobby E. Quick, Ronnie M. Quick, Gerald G. Quick, and Richard Quick; a sister, Frances Q. Langley.
Gary is survived by his stepsons, Jack Cribb (Jenny) of Myrtle Beach, Stephen Cribb (Pam) of Hamlet, NC; sisters, Linda Willis and Joanne Quick both of Bennettsville; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 3:00 P.M. at Burroughs Funeral Chapel. A burial with military honors will take place in Rogers Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, prior to the service at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Gary’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude’s Place Memphis, TN 38105.
