Hazel Tucker King, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 in North, South Carolina.

Hazel was born June 11, 1931 in Cheraw, SC to the late Guy Van Tucker Sr. and Bernice Tedder Tucker. After Graduating from Lenoir Rhyne College, Hazel began her teaching career in Florence, SC, where she met her future husband Merritt Henry King, Jr. They married and lived in McColl where she founded and operated Humpty Dumpty Kindergarten. In the 1970’s she began work as the director of the Head Start program in Bennettsville. Her last teaching post was as Principal of McColl Elementary School. After she retired, she worked as a volunteer at Scotland Memorial Hospital and was elected to McColl Town Council. Her hobbies included reading, cross stitch, walking, attending and helping at First Baptist Church where she was a member, and spending time at the beach.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above, a infant child, Timothy Guy King; a brother, Guy Van Tucker; sister, Louise Tucker. Hazel leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Dr. Merritt Henry King, III (Lee) and Dr. Samuel Van King (Shannon); grandchildren, Mary Stuart King, Esq., Samuel Tucker King and Laura Olivia King. She was greatly loved by her family and will be greatly missed by all.

A graveside service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Rogers Cemetery in McColl, SC.
