Jay Edward Prevatte, age 64 of McColl, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his residence.
Jay was born February 25, 1961, in Bennettsville. He was a son of the late JD and Bertha Chavis Prevatte. Jay was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed being outside. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Wayne Locklear; grandchildren, Declan Prevatte and Emslee Prevatte; brothers, Fairley Prevatte, Joseph Prevatte, and Roy Allen Prevatte; and a sister, Rebecca Grooms.
Jay is survived by his sons, Christopher J. Prevatte (Whitney) of Clio, Johnathan Edward Prevatte (Jamie) of Clio, Jerome Sanders of Charlotte, and William Allen Prevatte (Christen) of McColl; daughters, Donna Denise Prevatte and Melissa Ann Prevatte both of McColl; a brother, William Elvis Prevatte of McColl; a sister, Velma Bailey of McColl; grandchildren, Caleb Bullard, Brylee Prevatte, Rachel Perkins, Jaiden Prevatte, Brayden Prevatte, Jaxsen Prevatte, Jordyn Prevatte, Ivy Webster, Devyn Harper; former wife, Donna Kay Locklear of McColl; special friends, Moses Oxendine, Dorothy Harris, Kimberly McRae, and Pedro, all of McColl; a friend who was like a son, Kenneth Odom of McColl; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members also survive.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service in the Priest Cemetery.
A time of visitation will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Rogers Funeral Home Chapel.
