Lonza Leonard Locklear (Lonzie), age 63, passed away at UNC Health Southeastern on Sunday, May 10, 2026.
Born in Marlboro County, South Carolina, on February 18, 1963, he was the son of the late Lonzie Locklear, Sr. and Mary Lee Byrd.
Lonzie’s journey through life was marked by love, laughter, and his signature jokes. He had a natural gift for storytelling and making those around him smile. Lonzie was a man of many talents and interests. He found great joy in the detail-oriented hobby of building model cars and expressed his creativity through his drawing. On Sunday afternoons, you would find him cheering on his favorite NASCAR drivers, numbers 24 and 43.
In addition to his parents, Lonzie was preceded in death by his grandma Versa Mae Locklear, Brothers; Johnny, James and George Locklear; Sisters Laura Jane Roscoe, and Martha Strickland.
He is survived by his children, Lonzie Locklear, Jr. (Danielle) and Megan Locklear, all of Statesville, North Carolina; his brothers, Carl Locklear (Wendy)and Gilbert Locklear, Wilburn Locklear (Carrie-Rose)and his sister, Mary Jane Gause; all of McColl SC.
Lonzie also leaves behind his cherished six grandchildren, including Nate, Kaitlin, Jaxon, Briana, Kailey and Andrew Locklear, as well as his chosen granddaughter, Kristen Taylor (Shawn), whom he loved as his own. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Sakiyah, Shane, and Rylan of Maxton, North Carolina, and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will forever treasure the laughter he brought into their lives.
Lonzie's memory will continue to live on in the stories shared, the laughter that echoes, and the love felt by those who knew him. As we bid farewell to a remarkable man, we hold close the memories we have shared together.
A funeral will be held at 3pm, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Rogers Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Donald Deal, with burial in Priest Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2-3pm prior to the service.
