McColl, SC
Mitchell Ray Meggs, age 66, passed away on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at his residence in Dublin, NC.
Mitchell was born on July 2, 1955 in Bennettsville, S.C. to Aileen Rowell Meggs and the late William Alfred Meggs. He was affectionally known as M&M kid, over the years Mitchell worked in many different avenues, such as leadman at J.P. Stevens, volunteered with the McColl Rescue Squad and most recent as a police officer with the city of McColl. He had a love for all sports and it showed with him coaching all sports from his favorite baseball, football & basketball. He was a substitute teacher with McColl Elementary Middle School and coached all sports there. He served as a member of city council and Mayor Pro Tem with the city of McColl. Mitchell was the announcer and statistician for McColl High School Red Devil football team and also coached the high school baseball team too. Most of all he loved his favorite team the Atlanta Braves, pro wrestling and North Carolina Tar Heel sports.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Meggs; sisters, Terri Meggs and Alice Meggs Smith.
Mitchell leaves behind to cherish his memory, mother, Aileen Rowell Meggs of Bennettsville; brother Larry Meggs of McColl SC; sister, Shane Labean of Bluffton, SC; and a host of family members.
A memorial service will take place at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Rogers Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Deal officiating.
