Mr. Andrew Barfield, Sr., age 71, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, after a sudden illness.

Born in Marlboro County, SC, on February 15, 1946, he was the son of the late Evege and Hazel Knight Barfield. While attending McColl High School he was a very talented member of the Red Devils football team and was raised in the McColl Church of God. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing cards, shooting pool, farming and providing friends and neighbors with multitudes of fresh vegetables. He was a master mechanic and enjoyed working on cars, was an avid NASCAR fan with his favorite driver being the late Dale Earnhardt, Sr., and was a die-hard Washington Redskins fan. Andrew loved the Lord, his family, and grand kids, and enjoyed listening to classic country music.

 He is survived by his wife, Shelby Jean Grooms Barfield of the home; sons, Andrew Barfield, Jr. and  Adam Joseph Barfield (Chelsea)both of McColl; by daughters, U.S. Air Force Retired Sergeant Master, Jacqueline Barfield of Lexington, SC; by brothers, Eugene (Linda) Barfield of Gibson, NC, Charles (Lucky) Barfield, Johnny (Sandra) Barfield both of McColl and Mitchell (Gwen) Barfield of Kentucky; a sister, Geraldine Grooms (James) of McColl; by grandchildren, Tracey L. Barfield, Logan Michelle Barfield, Hailey Danielle Barfield, Abel Jasper Barfield, Peyton O’Reily Locklear, and Bentley James Locklear; and by a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the McColl Church of God with burial following in Rogers Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Springs and Rev. Mitchell Barfield will officiate. Mr. Barfield's remains will be taken to the home, 748 Hwy. 381 North in McColl and visitation will begin after 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.

Mr. Barfield was preceded in death by his parents listed above; by brothers, Norman Wesley "Doug" Barfield, and Fairley Barfield; and by a grandson, Kevin Anthony Barfield.
