Ruby Atkinson Herring, widow of Billy Bob Herring, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Scotland Memorial Hospital in Laurinburg, NC after a brief illness.
Ruby was born in Bennettsville, SC on June 6, 1947, to the late Charlie Britt and Frances Louise Watford Atkinson. She was a founder of In God Trust Ministries and attended Clio Church of God. She worked in the textile industry working for McColl Cotton Mill and Anvil. She loved going to church, spending time with family and her grandkids. She enjoyed visiting with her niece Fran.
She leaves behind to cherish her loving memory; sons, Charlie Arnold Hammonds and JoeJoe Herring; daughter, Crystal Taylor and husband JT; brother, Maxcy Atkinson; grandchildren, Sierra Taylor, Jamison Taylor, Kristen Taylor, Ashley Godwin Walden, Jonathan Edward Hammonds, Luke Foster Hammonds, Heidi Marie Rose, and Stephen Michael Rose; 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband listed above; son, Ramie “Buck” Hammonds; daughters, Frances Louise Rose and Tammy Hammonds; sister, Betty Jean Carlisle, brother, William Earl Atkinson.
A funeral service will be held at 4pm, Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at Clio Church of God, officiated by Rev. Kevin Rummage and Rev. Alfred Penfield, with burial at Rogers Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-4 pm just prior to the service.
