Velma Prevatt Bailey passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at Morrison Manor in Laurinburg, NC after an illness. She was 82 years old.

Born in Scotland County, NC on June 12, 1941, to the late JD and Bertha Chavis Prevatte. She was a member of Oakhill Church of God. She loved working in the yard and her house.

She is survived by her sons, Jay Allen Chavis, William Paul Chavis, and James Wesley Chavis, Jr.; brother, William Elvis Prevatte; several grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents listed above and brothers, James Farley Prevatte, Roy Allen Prevatte, Joseph Prevatte, Jay Edward Prevatte, and sister, Rebecca Prevatte Grooms.

A funeral service will be held 2pm, Friday, April 3, 2026, at Rogers Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Donald Deal, with burial at Priest Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00pm just prior to the service at the funeral home.
