Velva Dean (Locklear) Oxendine

Velva Dean Locklear Oxendine, 77, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2022, at Woodlands Nursing Home in Fayetteville, NC after an extended illness.

Born May 20, 1945, in Scotland County, NC, she was daughter of the late Richard and Utice Locklear. Sister Velva attended Mount Hebron Church in Maxton, NC. She enjoyed cooking, feeding the neighborhood, going to church, witnessing to others. She loved her family, community and praying for others.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Cottie Lee Locklear, brother Richard Locklear, daughter-in-law, Pam Oxendine.

She is survived by her sons, Rev. Brian Oxendine (Becky) of McColl, Tonie Locklear (Linda) of Laurinburg, and Elvis Oxendine of McColl; daughter, Melissa Oxendine of Lumberton; brothers, Jackie and T.B. Locklear both of Maxton; sisters, Clarkie Locklear of Maxton, Carolyn Smith of Maxton, and Alice Bullard (Roger) of Pembroke; grandchildren, Christopher Oxendine, Aaron Oxendine, Joshua Locklear (Jade), Heather Locklear (Brad), Caitlin Locklear, Brianna Oxendine, Brandon Wright (Alicia), Travis Oxendine, Brittany Locklear (Bruce); 22 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022 at Mount Hebron Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at Mount Hebron Church.
