Jesse Adams, Jr. of McColl, SC passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2016 in the care of McLeod Hospice in Florence, SC. 

 

There will be a memorial service on Sunday, June 26, 2016, 3:00 PM at Main St. United Methodist Church in McColl with Pastor Ann Everett officiating.  There will be  a private interment at a later date.  There will be a time of visitation in the fellowship hall of the church on Saturday evening, June 25, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00.

 

Eighty-eight years ago, on Wednesday, August 17, 1927, Jesse was born in Marlboro County, SC to the late Jesse Adams, Sr. and the late Mary Fletcher Adams.  He chose the SC Forestry Commission as his career and he worked as a county ranger in charge of fire control for Marlboro County.  Jesse was also a farmer until 1985.  He was a member of the Main St. United Methodist Church in McColl and was an active part of the United Methodist Men’s Group.  To relax he enjoyed turning wooden bowls on a lathe.

 

In addition to his aforementioned parents Jesse was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Betty Godbold Adams (1999), an infant daughter, Mary Elizabeth Adams, and  three sisters, Nan Adams Manning, Mary Lewis Adams Campbell, and Ruth Adams.

 

Jesse leaves with us two sons, Jesse Adams, III and wife Sandra of Florence, SC and Boyd Adams and wife Carole of Hamlet, NC; two daughters, Martha A. Burris and husband Randall of Lowell, NC and Bettie A. Carmichael and husband Craig of Latta, SC; a sister, Sarah Adams McNeill of Florence; eight grandchildren, Patrick Scott Horne, Bradley Russell Horne, Steven Thomas Horne, Meredith Ashley Burris Pruitt, Dr. John Craig Carmichael, III, Boyd Fuller Mills Adams, Allen Wells Coker Adams, and James Morgan Moree; four great-grandchildren, Shelton Celeste Pruitt, Coley Adams Pruitt, John “Jack” Craig Carmichael IV, and Jesse Andrew Carmichael; special friends William and Mary Tatum and a wonderful caretaker, Mary Moore, as well as a host of nephews, nieces, friends, and neighbors who will cherish his memory.

 

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Hope House c/o Main St. UMC at 210 N. Main St., McColl, SC 29570 or Hospice of Scotland County at 610 Lauchwood Dr. in Laurinburg, NC 28352.
