 Mr. John Allen “Noodie” Grooms
, age 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence after an illness with his loving family by his side. 

 Born, April 20, 1943, in Scotland County, NC, he was the son of the late Allen and Dovie Bell Locklear Grooms.  He was a retired maintenance worker from the Marlboro County Public Works Department and a former mechanic with the Marlboro County School Transportation Department. He was a hard worker who enjoyed getting his hands dirty and had a great fondness for outdoor work. His hobbies included collecting outdoor power equipment, especially lawn mowers. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many.

 He is survived by his daughters,  Amy Locklear (Melton) of Shannon, NC and Tonya Deal Bullard (Joe) of Pembroke, NC; three step-children, Paula Oxendine (Michael) of Pembroke, NC, Lisa Brigman (Michael) of Maxton, NC and Gary Owens (Amy) of Red Springs, NC;  brothers, Jennings Grooms (Bernice) of McColl, Robert Grooms (Becky) of McColl, Melvin Grooms (Phyllis) of McColl, and Richard Grooms (Renee) of Rowland, NC; sisters, Dorothy Clark (Howard) of Hasty, NC, Carolyn Grooms of McColl, Gladys Marie Lee (Larry) of McColl, Lorraine Locklear of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Darlene Rosario (Alberto) of Ramstein, Germany; 4 grandchildren, Joseph Alan Bullard and Jacob Adam Bullard both of Pembroke, NC and Hannah Naomi Bullard and Raylen Chase Locklear both of Shannon, NC;  also by numerous nieces and nephews & friends. 

 Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, January, 15, 2017, at the McColl Pentecostal Holiness Church, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Springs and the Rev. Brian Oxendine.  Burial, directed by Rogers Funeral Home will follow at Rogers Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the McColl Pentecostal Holiness Church on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M., and other times at the home of Jennings and Bernice Grooms, 105 McCormick Ave., McColl, SC 29570. 

 Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN  38101-9908. 

In addition to his parents listed above, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Grooms.
